Quality of life is second to none in Ottawa. The community is atypical among other communities due to its very diverse base. It was founded in 1817 by the Ottawa Indians and in 1862 the town officially became know as Ottawa. An Indian burial ground was located on what is now known as Second Street. In 1834 the first building, Row Tavern, was built and to this day Ottawa still continues to grow.

Ottawa has several local restaurants and shopping centers downtown. The park system has 40 acres of shaded picnic areas. More then eleven churches provide worship and fellowship for denominational groups in Ottawa. The area also has several recreational areas including 15 golf courses and the Ottawa Reservoir. If medical care is needed, Ottawa is fortunate to be able to provide such fine services. St. Rita's Medical Center of Lima, has a Ambulatory Care Center located just west of Ottawa in Glandorf, which is directly across the road from Calvary Manor.
